On March 27, 2020, it was announced that a North Texas ambulance provider will be partnering with local health officials in order to provide in-home Coronavirus testing. This partnership will allow trained paramedics to enter the homes of previously screened patients and provide them with the testing they need.
Paramedics who have received special training with MedStar will be at the front of the lines in this new partnership. These are the individuals who will be sent to Tarrant County homes to check on patients who are currently being screened for the COVID-19 virus. Because this virus is highly contagious, this partnership will allow health professionals to properly care for their sick patients while allowing them to stay in quarantine. In addition to this, some patients are elderly or extremely sick, meaning they may not be able to transport themselves to the hospital. Providing in-home ensures they will not be forgotten.
As of now, the in-home testing is only available for patients who have been previously screened for Coronavirus and are currently being monitored by the Tarrant County health department. According to Matt Zavardsky, a spokesperson for the ambulance provider, the testing is currently not available to the general public.
The COVID-19 virus continues to run rampant across the world. Locally, there have recently been 16 new reported cases of individuals who have contracted the virus. The county has begun reporting provisional cases as well, in an attempt to give citizens and residents the most accurate information possible. As of now, there have been 155 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Tarrant County.
In more recent news, Tarrant County has reported its first Coronavirus recovery. Dr. Robert Pace, a local pastor who leads service at Trinity Episcopal Church in Fort Worth, has recovered since testing positive for COVID-19 on March 9, 2020. During an interview, the pastor stated that he believes he contracted the virus during a church conference he attended in the state of Kentucky back in February. After experiencing flu-like symptoms a few days later, he was under the impression that he did not have Coronavirus, but after a day where he had a 103-degree fever, he tested posted for COVID-19.
Social distancing is incredibly important during this time. The best way to flatten the curve and stop the spread of this virus is for individuals to stay at home and away from peers. In addition to avoiding large crowds and social gatherings, it is important to closely monitor hygiene. Regularly washing your hands, disinfecting household items, and staying away from individuals who exhibit symptoms of sickness can all be potentially lifesaving.
